For many years, Millbrook School has had an active PTA and in October 2008, a few of the existing PTA Members joined up with some new friends and we reformed to become a PTFA (Parents Teachers and Friends Association), and re-named ourselves ‘Friends of Millbrook’
Who are we?
We are mums, dads, teachers and staff who are interested in organising events both to entertain the children, friends and family of the school and also to raise money for the children at the school. The Friends consists of a committee of people including :
Chairwoman: Panayiota Marcos
Vice Chair & 100 Club Co-ordinator: Danielle Hajdu
Treasurer: Natalie Vincent
What have we done so far?
Since we reformed, we have organised a Summer Fete, Christmas Fayres, quiz nights for the parents, discos for the children and much more… Amongst other things, we’ve paid for the tickets for the whole school trip to the Pantomime at The Broxbourne Spotlight Theatre and given each class £100 towards coach travel, car booster seats, tables, seating, and markings for the school playground. We’ve also started a 100 Club and introduced Class Representatives and a newsletter to help improve communication.
Although you will usually receive a weekly newsletter from the school, we also now produce our own Newsletter every half term. This is to let you know useful information like forthcoming events, the latest 100 Club winners, what we’re spending your money on, and a suggestion box for you to tell us what you think of what we are doing and to offer us your ideas of what events you would like organised or how you would like us to spend the money raised from these events. We also provide advertising space for small businesses, to help raise extra funds so, if you own your own business, look out for the price list and maybe we can help you too!
Your Class Representative
Each class has their own representative who provides a link between the class and the Friends association. Their role is to advertise events and encourage adults and children associated with the class to take part.
When and where do we meet?
We try to meet at least once a month. We also sometimes hold extra ‘mini meetings’ at Friday Coffee Mornings , especially close to events, when we just need to make sure everything is organised and going to plan. If you would like to speak to someone about the Friends association please contact Penny firstname.lastname@example.org
