In English we have been learning about’ Tales from Outer Suburbia ‘by Shaun Tan. We wrote a monologue about a story called ‘The Water Buffalo’. We thought about what the buffalo was feeling and what might have happened to him in the past. Also we wrote a dialogue about ‘No Other Country’. We wrote some phrases about the picture and made up speech as if we were the characters.
In Maths, we have been learning about:
- Short and long division.
- Area of right- angled, Scalene, Isosceles and Equilateral triangles.
- Simplifying fractions
- Equivalent Fractions
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
In science, Year 6 are learning about the body. We are learning about capillaries, arteries, veins, kidneys, lungs and heart.
The Circulatory System
The oxygen that comes in our body helps the heart stay healthy and pump blood around the body. The air that exits the body is called carbon- dioxide.
In History we are learning about World War 2 and the Battle of Britain. In World War 2 it was a very sad time. London was bombed regularly and the children were in fear. We have asked our classmates what they would want to find out about World War 2. Here are some examples: Which countries fought in the war? How did the war start? What happened after the war?
In Year 6 we have 2 main forms of home learning they are English and maths. Maths home learning must be handed in on Mondays and English home learning must be handed in on Thursdays.
Normally our home learning will be linked to the subject we have been mainly focusing on that week.
For the proceeding weeks – after school – we will be doing tuition with the following teachers: Mrs. Sheikh and Mrs. Paton.
The days for tuition are:
Tuesday- we will be learning Maths with Mrs Sheikh.
Wednesday- we will be learning reading with Mrs. Sheikh.
Thursday- we will be learning Maths with Mrs. Paton.
This is Year 6’s marvellous trip review:
On Monday the 17th of December 2018 Year 6 went to the palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament).
We entered the Palace of Westminster after a long wait. The first room we went into was the main hall (the inspiration of the great hall from Harry Potter).
