PE & Sport Premium – Update for Parents and Carers

Important Update

You may notice that the PE and Sport Premium page is no longer published in the same way on our school website.

This is because the Department for Education has updated how schools are expected to publish information about Sports Premium funding. Schools are no longer required to host a standalone Sports Premium webpage in the previous format.

However, we remain fully committed to transparency and to ensuring that parents understand:

• What the PE and Sport Premium is

• Why we receive it

• How it benefits pupils

• How the funding improves physical education and school sport

What is the PE and Sport Premium?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding given to primary schools in England.

It is provided by the Department for Education to:

• Improve the quality of PE teaching

• Increase participation in physical activity

• Broaden sporting opportunities

• Promote healthy, active lifestyles

• Create sustainable improvements in school sport

The funding is ring-fenced, which means it must be spent on improving PE and sport provision.

Why do we receive it?

Schools receive Sports Premium funding based on:

• A fixed amount per school

• An additional amount per pupil in Years One - Six 

This funding recognises the importance of physical education and physical activity in supporting children’s:

• Physical health

• Mental wellbeing

• Confidence and resilience

• Teamwork and social skills

• Long-term healthy habits

How is the funding used?

Although the format of publication has changed, the purpose remains the same: improving outcomes for pupils.

Schools typically use the funding to:

• Enhance the quality of PE teaching through staff training

• Provide specialist sports coaching

• Increase participation in competitive sport

• Offer a wider range of sporting activities

• Support active playtimes and lunchtimes

• Improve equipment and facilities

• Support pupils who are less active to engage in sport

Our focus is always on creating sustainable improvements that continue beyond the funding year.

The Sports Premium helps us to:
