Girl power was at its best this week in Millbrook School as all the girls in KS2 had the chance to participate in the National F.A initiative – ‘Girls’ Football Week’. The aim of this week was to get more girls involved in football, and that’s exactly what we did. With the help of football coach Gary Merson and our very own super star Miss Greene, each year group had a whole afternoon of fun football, where they practised a variety of ball skills, played mini-matches and finished with a penalty shoot out.
Even the snow and rain in the first two days didn’t dampen the girls’ spirit, and despite some reluctance (initially) to join in ALL the girls took part and thoroughly enjoyed it! By the end of the session 99% were begging for more!
Miss Greene and Gary were amazed at the positive attitude and determination shown by all the girls. There was a lot of skill apparent in all year groups with some great defenders in Year 5, who practically kept Miss Greene out of the game (stopping her from getting her hat-trick!) Although physically challenging, for many, the girls persisted and through teamwork, support and encouragement (and a lot of sweat, mainly from Miss Greene!) they all got through it. The girls were rewarded with certificates, medals and trophies.
All in all we had a very successful Girls’ Football Week here at Millbrook. We had lots of fun, laughter and friendly banter. Well done Millbrook Girls. We are so proud of you all.
