Governors

Millbrook Primary School Governing Body

The Governing Body includes representatives of Millbrook staff, Millbrook Parents,

the Local Authority and the local community.

Our role as Governors is to be ‘critical friends’ of the school. We aim to provide

support and encouragement and to recognise and celebrate the school’s achievements, but also to challenge and question the school to ensure that the budget is being well managed and that areas for improvement continue to be identified and pursued.

Being a Governor at Millbrook is a challenging but rewarding experience. It is challenging because standards of management at the school are very high, and because education policy is always changing: we need to be on our toes to keep up and make a contribution. But it is immensely inspiring to see close up how the school functions and to observe at first hand the key to Millbrook’s success – the time and energy dedicated to the staff team.

If you would like to talk to a Governor about any issue to do with the school, please get in touch. The school can provide you with contact details.

I joined Millbrook’s governing body in May 2020 as a Parent Governor.  Currently, I am Chair of the Finance and Premises Committee and also have responsibility for Health and Safety.

Professionally, I work as a solicitor specialising, primarily, in Employment law.

Robert Fielden

Co-Opted Governor

I qualified as an engineer with an HND and have worked for a Danish headset manufacturer for the past thirty-three years. In this time I have had a number of management roles mostly involving Sales, Technical Support and Marketing and has recently retired. My family have lived in Cheshunt for 32 Years and all three of my children attended the Hertfordshire and Essex High School in Bishop Stortford. In return, I wanted to help the school that has so helped my family thereby taking on a role in the governing body for the past 18 years, serving for 8 years until September 2020 as Chair of the HEMAT Trust and now Chair of the Trust Members. Previously being an active member of the PTA. This has given me a good understanding of how schools run and what support is needed and given to our children in the surrounding community.

I was a NLG National Leader of Governance and is now a SLOG Hertfordshire Strategic Leader of Governance and works as a consultant for HFL education as an ERG External Reviewer of Governance.

In September 2022 joined Millbrook School as a co-opted governor.

My interests include building, DIY, Skiing, Scuba Diving, Target Shooting and Fly Fishing.

Nigel Watson

I joined the Governing Board in January 2023. I have lived in the local area for over twenty years and  have two grown up children who were both educated within the Hertfordshire School system.

I recently took early retirement having enjoyed a long business career with one of the world's largest vehicle mobility companies. I was responsible for managing their Risk Management programme across Europe - I also spent some time working in the USA.

Retirement now allows me to pursue opportunities such as this, joining the Governing Body of Millbrook Primary,  along with affording me more time to indulge my passions of watching both football and rugby
