Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the use of AI in our schools

The Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation recognises that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an emerging and powerful technology with the potential to enhance teaching, learning, and school administration. When used responsibly, AI can support staff in delivering high-quality education, streamline administrative tasks, and help pupils develop the digital literacy skills they will need in the future.

Our Federation is committed to ensuring that AI is used in a safe, ethical, and transparent manner. All AI use will comply with safeguarding requirements, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Data Protection Act 2018. AI will never replace the professional judgement of our teachers or the human relationships at the heart of our schools.

In practice, this means:

  • Staff-led use – AI is used as a support tool, not a decision-maker.

  • No personal data – Pupil and staff personal information will never be entered into unsecured AI systems.

  • Age-appropriate access – Pupils will only use AI under teacher supervision for educational purposes.

  • Transparency – The Federation will be open about when and how AI is used in teaching and school operations.

  • Ethical practice – AI will not be used to generate or promote inappropriate, discriminatory, or misleading content.

By adopting these principles, the Federation aims to harness the benefits of AI while protecting our pupils, staff, and community from potential risks. We will continue to review our approach in line with national guidance and technological developments.
