Year 2 2021
Letter to parents and children of Year 2
Mrs Cooper, Mr Davies, Mr Jones and I are very excited to be teaching your children this year. I am sure your child will flourish this year with the talents they have. As a Year 2 team, we will ensure quality teaching and outcomes for your children in such a way that your children will have fun along the way.
Please have a look at our Autumn Term overview to see how you can provide support to your children throughout this term and also take note of our new Autumn Term timetable so that you can see when what is being taught and when. Please make note of PE days, as these will be the days where your children will need to arrive at school wearing a PE kit. At the moment, PE days are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I will make sure that you are kept informed of any changes to this.
Homework will alternate each week. One week English and one week Mathematics. This will be given out on a Friday and due in on a Tuesday. If your child does not complete their homework or forgets to bring it in on Tuesday they will spend some time with a teacher during break-time to complete it.
It is expected that children are heard to read by a family member every day (Mon - Fri) for 10 minutes and this is to be noted in the reading record that we provide. Please write in the record if your child has read a few pages to you.
Please ensure your child has their reading record and book with them every day.
Your child will be heard to read in school by an adult individually once per week and also will be part of Guided reading sessions that happen every day with the class teacher.
And finally, please ensure that your child brings a named water bottle everyday.
I have had an absolutely fabulous time meeting your children this week and have watched their faces light up with enthusiasm for learning. It's going to be a great year.
Keep your eyes out for newsletters by email and also our twitter account where we will share the exciting things the children are doing.

If you are having trouble then please contact me via my school email address:
and I will happily call you/email back to help you with any queries.
You will still need to continue reading daily on BugClub or reading books at home (please let me know if you would like to change your level) and Mathletics will be updated daily.
Teachers: Miss Yemmi & Miss Babir
Teaching Assistants: Miss Jones & Mr Davis
If you are interested to find out more about our curriculum then please speak us.
Please try to hear your child read every night. If you are busy then your child can read to a pet/toy; the main thing is that they are reading daily.
Due to the current circumstances we are prescribing books via BugClub. Your child will be able to log on with their first name followed by the first letter of their surname, (e.g. AminaY) and the password they have been given.
If you have issues accessing the internet please make us aware.
If you feel the level currently set for your child is not appropriate please make us aware. We are able to increase or decrease the challenge quickly.
Our aim this year is to increase your child’s LOVE of reading!
Your child will be given spellings to learn on Monday and be tested in class on Friday. We will learn these during the week at school but these will also need to be learnt at home.
English/Maths/Topic homework will be given out on Friday to be returned on the following Tuesday. This homework will reflect what have been learning in the classroom that week or prepare the children for their learning the following week.
Our PE lessons are on Wednesday. The children also have chance to participate in running or walking the daily mile each day. PE kit should be worn into school every Wednesday. The children will remain in their PE kit for the whole day. Please ensure all uniform is clearly labelled with their name. If your child wears earrings they need to be able to remove them or cover them with tape. Long hair also needs to be tied up.
n Year 2 fruit and vegetables are provided or the children can bring in a healthy snack to eat at break. This should either be fresh or dried fruit, a cereal bar, a yoghurt tube (e.g. Frubes) or similar finger food. Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day. If you are unable to provide a water bottle please make us aware and we will make sure your child has access to drinking water.
